Prevention Tips
- Only give out your email address to trusted individuals and web sites. A trusted web site will have a detailed privacy statement.
- Create an email sub-account and use this mailbox for all online transactions. Some organizations will pass email addresses on to spammers after a customer makes a purchase, signs up for a contest, receives a greeting card, etc. Dedicating a mailbox for these transactions keeps your primary TOAST.net mailbox free of spam. Most TOAST.net packages come with the ability to create a sub-accounts through the My Account.
- Be careful when replying to a Spam message. This tells the spammer that you are reading your email and may generate more Spam. Only attempt to unsubscribe from legitimate organizations. Legitimate organizations have a detailed privacy statement.
- Report Spam to SpamCop or to your state's attorney general's office. Some states have passed laws against Spam.
