DSL Modem Installation

Use the step-by-step instructions below to configure your hardware for TOAST.net DSL.


Step 1: Attach DSL Filters Attach filters to every device that uses telephone service such as telephones, fax machines, answering machines, alarm systems and/or satellite receivers. Repeat these steps for each device in your house. All jacks used for voice communication need a filter. (Do NOT filter the DSL modem).

  • Unplug the telephone or device from the phone jack.
  • Plug the DSL filter into phone jack.
  • Plug the telephone or device into the open port on the DSL filter.

    Optional: Dual Filter

    If you want to use a single wall jack for DSL
    traffic and for voice calls, you can use a dual
    filter to convert one wall jack into two jacks.
    Plug the DSL modem into the "DSL" port and
    the telephone device into the "Phone" port.

    Optional: Wall-Mount Filter

    • Remove the phone (by sliding it off the mount.)
    • Install the filter (it slides on like the phone.)
    • Re-seat the phone over the wall-mount as before.



Step 2: Connect DSL Modem

Connect cables to DSL Modem.

  • Connect a phone line from an available unfiltered jack to the DSL modem's ADSL phone jack. Remember: (Do NOT filter the DSL modem).
  • Connect the DSL modem to your computer's Ethernet jack using a network cable.

Step 3: Configure Software

Uninstall Dialup software

If you previously had dialup software installed on your computer such as dialers or acceleration software, uninstall these applications through your computer's Add/Remove Programs Menu. This can be found in the Control Panel.

Install Optional Software

Optional software recommended for use with TOAST.net DSL includes the Anti-Virus software and the Anti-Spyware software. These can be found on the TOAST.net CD or at www.toast.net/software

Connect to the Internet

Open any Browser Window to connect to the Internet. When your browser opens, the first page you see is the TOAST.net Start Page (start.toast.net/). There are several icons across the top of the page to help you get the most out of your service:

Email -Check your TOAST.net email from the web.

My Account -View your current balance, edit your billing information, create additional mailboxes, and more!
