Tri-Fi - Connecting Through USB Tether

 The Tri-Fi for 3G/4G mobile hotspots supports a direct connection through a USB cable to a Windows or Mac computer (This is commonly referred to as a “tethered” connection.)
 
Note: If you’ll be using USB for data transfer (and not just for charging the device), you must install the device driver (see below). No installation CD is required — the device supports the TRU-Install feature.
If you are using Mac OS X 10.4.x, after you connect the device you may see a warning message that your computer is running on UPS backup battery and that you should perform a computer  shutdown. You can continue with your work. To prevent this message from being displayed, install the device driver.
 
Windows XP/Vista/7:
To install the device driver on Windows XP/Vista/7:
1. Make sure the device is turned on.
2. Connect the device to your computer through the micro-USB cable.  (screenshot)
3. If the TRU-Install "Welcome" window is displayed, click the Cancel button.  (screenshot)
4. Go to the Start menu and open Computer.
5. Right click on the drive labeled Tru-Install and click on Open or Explore.  (screenshot)
6. Double click on the Win folder (screenshot) to open it and then double click on the Setup file (screenshotto run the installation.
7. Click on OK when prompted by the Tru-Install "Welcome" screen.  (screenshot)
8. Click Next (screenshot) on the screen that comes up and then click Install (screenshoton the following screen.

Windows 8:
To install the device driver on Windows 8:
1. Make sure the device is turned on.
2. Connect the device to your computer through the micro-USB cable.  (screenshot)
3. If the TRU-Install "Welcome" window is displayed, click the Cancel button.  (screenshot)
4. Click this link -> Download Now to download the proper Windows 8 drivers for the installation.
5. Click Run or Open when prompted to start the download.  (screenshot)
6. Click Yes when the "User Account Control" window appears.  (screenshot)
7. Click Next (screenshot) on the screen that comes up and then click Install (screenshot) on the following screen.
8. Click Finish once the installation is complete.  (screenshot)
 
Mac OS X 10.4.x or higher:
To install the device driver on Mac OS X 10.4.x or higher:
1. Make sure the device is turned on.
2. Connect the device to your computer through the micro-USB cable.  (screenshot)
3. A window will be displayed for a CD titled "Sierra Hotspot Installer," which usually opens automatically.  (screenshot)
4. Double click the Sierra Hotspot Installer package.
5. Click Continue on the Introduction window for the installation process to begin.  (screenshot)
6. Click Continue on the Read Me portion of the installation.  (screenshot)
7. Click Install on the Installation Type step to run the installation.  (screenshot)
8. Once installation is complete you will be prompted to restart.  Click Restart to your computer.
9.After computer is rebooted, click the Apple icon Image and select System Preferences (screenshot).  Click Network in the new window. (screenshot)
10. The New Interface Detected message box is displayed.  Confirm by clicking OK.  (screenshot)
11. A new entry called "Sierra Wireless Tethered Hotspot" should be listed on the left side of the window.  The "Sierra ... Hotspot" should automatically connect and an IP Address will populate on the right side of the window (screenshot).  This means the setup is complete and successful.  Close the window and browse the internet.
