Often the Internet link to your home/office is working fine, but you experience slow performance due to the Wi-Fi that distributes the Internet.
This video provides tips to improve the Wi-Fi in your home or office. The tips are easy to do and don't require any additional equipment.
Summary
Elevate your Modem/Router – Get your modem/router off the floor or out from under the table.
Avoid Obstructions – Imagine the Wi-Fi signal taking a straight line from the modem to your TV or other device. Does it go through a kitchen appliance, metal pipes, or other obstruction? If so, try to move either the modem or device for the shortest, most direct path, that avoids these objects.
Rotate and Reposition – Sometimes just rotating the modem or moving it a couple feet one way or another can improve performance because it will avoid a heating duct in the wall, etc. Test various positions using your phone and
Fast.com to measure speed in the room where you want to improve Wi-Fi.
Choose the right network 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz – Depending on your modem/router's capability you will have a choice in which Wi-Fi band to connect your device to. If you are in need of faster speeds, connect to the 5GHz network. If you are looking to connect from a farther range, choose the 2.4GHz network. More ideas for extending Wi-Fi range:
If you have a really large home and the signal doesn't reach certain areas, then look into a range extender or wireless access point. For device recommendations, check out this NY Times Article on Wi-Fi Extenders. Be sure to put the the extender in the middle between your modem/router and the area with poor service. It will act as a repeater and boost the wireless signal to reach your desired location.
