Set Up Sub-Account - Outlook 2010, 2013 & 2016

Applies to: Users who want to use Outlook 2010/2013/2016 to access their SmarterMail mailbox.

This article will configure Outlook to synchronize email only. If you would like to enable contact, calendar, and note synchronization, we recommend G Suite by Google.

You will need to know your Server Hostname in order to complete the setup. If you do not know your Server Hostname you can obtain it from the Email Setup Wizard.

To configure Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016:

  1. Click on the File tab, then click the Add Account button.
  2. In the Account Settings window click on the New button. (For Outlook 2016 skip to step 3).

  3. Select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next. (For Outlook 2016 after clicking on Next, select POP or IMAP and click Next again.)
     
     

     
  4. Enter the following information:   
    • Your Name: Your real name.
    • E-Mail Address: Your email address
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: (The Server Hostname obtained from the Email Setup Wizard)
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): (The Server Hostname obtained from the Email Setup Wizard)
    • Username: Your complete email address
    • Password: Your email password
        
  5. Click More Settings... when complete
     
     

     
  6. Click the Outgoing Server tab, and then checkmark My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.  Make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
     
     

     
  7. Configure encryption for secure communication with the server.  Click the Advanced tab and enter the following information:   
    • Incoming Server (IMAP): 993
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection: Choose SSL.
    • Outgoing server (SMTP): 587
    • Use the following type of encrypted connect: Choose TLS.

  8. Click Next to complete the account setup.
  9. Outlook will then test your settings.  You should get two green checkmarks if everything is correct.  Click Close when complete.
     
     

     
  10. Click Finish to complete the account setup.
     
     

     
  11. Your new email account will now be listed in the Account Settings window.  Click Close, and your email folder will populate in Outlook's folder list.
