What is content filtering?
Content filtering is a way you can control how emails sent to you are sorted. There are various categories you can utilize to sort your incoming emails, such as emails from a specific sender or domain, emails that contain attachments, emails containing certain words, and much more. There are also various actions you can take on these filtered emails, such as marking as read, moving, deleting, and much more.
To create a filter:
2. Navigate to the filter settings by clicking the gear icon at the top right of the screen. A drop down menu should appear. Click "Filters".
If any filters already exist, you should see them on screen. You can edit the filter by clicking the pencil icon on the right hand side of the screen adjacent to the filter. You can delete any filters by clicking the "x" on the right hand side of the screen adjacent to the filter.
3.To make a new filter, click the "New Filter" button
4. The filter creation menu should now be on screen. This is where you will specify the identifiers and actions for the filter.
a. The filter needs to identify some part of the email to use in its action. This section is were you specify where it is going to look for this information. Select one of the options from the drop down menu shown below:
b. The next parameter give the filter more instructions on what its looking for. Does it contain a certain word, start with a certain word, etc. Select one of the options from the dropdown list.
After you have selected this parameter, type in the box below what word or characters you want the filter to check for.
c. Now that the filter knows what to check for, it needs to know what action to take after it has been triggered. Select the desired action from the dropdown menu as shown below.
d. Depending on the action, it may need to know the destination of that action, you can specify that in the drop down menu as shown below.
You can add more conditions to the filter if you need to check for more than 1 identifier or perform more than 1 action on a message. Do this by clicking the "New Condition" button in the bottom left hand corner.
5. Once you are satisfied with the filter, click the "Save" button in the bottom right to finalize and save the filter.
