Sending an Email to a Contact Category in SmarterMail

Once you have grouped your contacts into categories, you can quickly send an email to everyone in a category without having to type out each address individually. This article will walk you through how to do that.

If you have not yet set up your categories, please refer to Creating and Managing Contact Categories in SmarterMail first.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. From the Email section (the page you land on after signing in), click New in the top navigation bar to begin composing a new email.
  2. A new email composition window will open. Click directly on the word To (not the line next to it). When you hover your cursor over To, the background will turn blue to indicate it can be clicked.
  3. A small Recipients window will pop up. Below the Recipients heading, you will see a List field set to "My Contacts" by default, with a drop-down arrow to the right.
  4. Click anywhere on the List line (you do not need to click the arrow specifically). A drop-down will appear showing all of the categories you have created. Click the category you wish to email.
  5. Once a category is selected, every contact in that category will be listed below it with a toggle next to each name. You can:
    • Toggle on individual contacts to email only specific people in the category, or
    • Click Select All at the bottom of the window to email everyone in the category.
  6. Once you have made your selections, click OK at the bottom of the window. Click Cancel to discard your selections and close the window.

  7. The selected contacts will populate the To line of your email. Fill out the subject line and message body as you normally would, then send your email.
Using Cc and Bcc with Categories
If you would prefer to send your email using Cc (carbon copy) or Bcc (blind carbon copy), you can do so by following these steps:

  1. At the end of the To line in the email composition window, you will see Cc/Bcc. Just like the To button, the background will turn blue when you hover over it.

  2. Click Cc/Bcc. Two additional lines will be added to the email window so it now displays From, To, Cc, Bcc, and Subject.

  3. Click directly on the word Cc or Bcc to bring up the same Recipients window. Select your category and choose the contacts you wish to include, then click OK.
