To confirm if you have a dial-up modem installed, follow these steps: Windows 7 and Vista
- Click the Start button.
- Locate the Search Programs and Files (Windows 7) or Start Search (Vista) box and type Device Manager.
- Select Device Manager from the list that appears on the Start Menu.

- Device Manager will open, showing all of the devices installed on the computer in alphabetical order.
- You should see Modems on the list. If the Modems category is not listed, a dial-up modem is not installed.

Windows XP/2000
- Click Start in the bottom left then go into Control Panel.
- In Windows XP, be sure that Classic View is selected on the left menu.
- Click the System icon, then select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. You will see a list of all of the devices installed on the computer in alphabetical order.
- You should see Modems on the list. If the Modems category is not listed, a dial-up modem is not installed.

Macintosh
- Open the Apple Icon in the top left, then select System Preferences.
- Open the Network icon.
- Look for a listing for External Modem or Internal Modem along the left column.
- If there is not a listing for a modem, no modem is installed.
